Marijke Bouwmans

Marijke Bouwmans, born in 1954, stands as a distinguished Dutch research-based artist celebrated for her innovative installations crafted from commonplace materials like wool, wood, rubber, robotics, and domestic artifacts. Beyond her artistic pursuits, Bouwmans actively practices psychotherapy. She weaves her professional training in associative processes into the exploration of existential themes within her creations. Her unique creative process involves a meticulous examination of the unconscious, often finding inspiration in dream analysis to shape her installations, resulting in work that is a blend of analytical and poetic elements.

Bouwmans earned an M.A. in Counselling Psychology, specialising in Depth Psychology, from the Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, CA. She furthered her studies in fine arts at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and California State University Fresno.

Beyond her artistic realm, Bouwmans has delivered numerous presentations on Art and Psychology in both The Netherlands and the U.S.

Balancing her time between Gouda, The Netherlands, and North Fork, CA, Bouwmans enjoys tennis, biking, and meaningful conversations with friends when not immersed in her art.
